    Established in 1976, Koshi Tappu was created to protect the endangered wild water buffalo (Arna). It was later designated as a Ramsar site, a wetland of international importance, due to its critical role as a habitat for resident and migratory birds. The reserve is a crucial stopover point for birds migrating along the major flyway between Asia and Europe.

    Best Time to Visit

    The best time to visit is from October to May. The period from November to February is particularly excellent for birdwatching, as it is when migratory birds arrive from Siberia and other cold regions.
