Description: Chhath is a major Hindu festival mainly celebrated in the Terai region of Nepal. It is dedicated to the Sun God (Surya) and his consort Usha, thanking them for sustaining life on Earth and praying for prosperity and well-being.
Chhath is considered one of the most ancient festivals dedicated to the Sun. It involves fasting, holy bathing, and offering arghya (sacred offerings) to the rising and setting sun. Women mostly observe the fast, praying for the health and longevity of their families.
Traditional foods like Thekuwa (sweet made of flour, jaggery, and ghee), fruits, and sugarcane are offered and later shared as prasad.
